It didn’t take long for the hurricane season to get started with tropical storm Fay dumping several inches of rain and a couple of tornados on our area. Don’t forget the Post has a generator that will allow us to stay open for business in case of a hurricane.
The Post Installation of Officers Dinner is scheduled for September 20th. Reservations are required.
Don’t forget to mail in your 2009 dues before October 1st to become eligible for the early bird drawing. We will pick 10 winners who will not have to pay their 2010 dues.
Former Post 271 S.A.L. Commander George Rifenburg has been elected Southern Area Commander of the S.A.L. It would be nice if all S.A.L. members pay their 2009 dues A.S.A.P. so his home Post will be the 1st 100% Post in the Southern area.
It has been brought to my attention that the Post makes many donations to various Legion Programs and local/individual charities over the year, that most Legion members don’t know about unless they attended a Post meeting.
Therefore, starting this month I will list each donation as they occur. Our 1st donation for August was $50.00 to the Fire Fighters/EMT Benevolent Fund. The 2nd donation was to a local handicapped 11 year old girl Zoe Papa in the amount of $500.00 to help pay for a special racing chair so she can enter different handicap events. The 3rd was for $125.00 to F.O.P. Lodge 50 and 4th to David Peters in the amount of $250.00 for an Eagle Scout Project at the home for the blind.
For the Legion,
Ken Rourke
Commander
